Free Indeed
John 8:31-36
Then said Jesus to those
Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are
ye my disciples indeed;
And ye shall know the truth,
and the truth shall make you free.
They answered him, We be
Abraham's
seed, and were never in bondage to any man: how sayest thou, Ye
shall
be made free?
Jesus answered them, Verily,
verily, I say unto you, Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin.
And the servant abideth not in
the house for ever: but the Son abideth ever.
If
the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.
The Word of God gives us a knowledge of the
accomplished
work of the Lord Jesus Christ. God's Word and God's son
have
given us complete freedom from the bondage of sin and it's
consequences.
In Christ we are free indeed.
Luke 4:18
The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath
anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal
the brokenhearted, to preach
deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the
blind, to set at liberty them
that are bruised,
To preach the acceptable year of the Lord.
When Jesus Christ
began his ministry he spoke these words. He came to preach
deliverance to the captives and set at liberty them that are
bruised. Jesus Christ came to make us free indeed.
Hebrews 2:14
Forasmuch then as the
children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise
took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had
the power of death, that is, the devil;
And deliver them who
through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage.
People have a fear of death that keeps
them in bondage a lifetime. Jesus Christ came and faced death
that he might destroy the devil who has the power of death. Jesus
Christ came to make eternal life available. He conquered death to
deliver us from death. Freedom from death? Now that is free
indeed.
Romans 6:17-18
But God be thanked that ye were
[past tense] the
servants of sin, but ye have obeyed from the heart that form of
doctrine
which was delivered you.
Being
then made free from sin, ye became the
servants
of righteousness.
Before a person confesses with their mouth the Lord
Jesus and believes in their heart that God raised him from the dead he
or she is the servant of sin. All mankind has been in bondage to
sin since Adam disobeyed God and lost his spiritual connection.
It
is only by the obedience of Christ that we have freedom from sin.
Ephesians 4:8
Wherefore he saith, When he
ascended up on high, he led
captivity captive, and gave gifts unto men.
When Christ was raised from the dead and ascended into
heaven he led everything that captivates mankind captive. That is
why we are free indeed.
Colossians 1:13
Who [God]
hath delivered us
from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the
kingdom
of [by] his
dear
son:
The word delivered means
rescued.
We have been rescued from the devil's kingdom and have been made
citizens in God's kingdom by the work of His dear son. It is in
the past tense. It is
a present tense reality. We have deliverance NOW. Right now
we are free indeed.
Romans
7:22-8:2
For I delight in the law of God after the
inward man:
But I see another law
in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into
captivity to the law of sin which is in my members.
O wretched man that I
am! who shall deliver me from the body of this death?
I thank God through
Jesus Christ our Lord. So then with the mind I myself serve the law of
God; but with the flesh the law of sin.
There is therefore now no condemnation
to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but
after the Spirit.
For the law of the
Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath
made me free from the law of sin and death.
Christ has made us free from sin. But the devil's
influence is still in the world and thoughts of self condemnation and
sin can bring us back into bondage. Thoughts of fear, worry,
anxiety, suicide, death. Thoughts of sickness and
disease. These can be the most tormenting kinds of bondage.
There is a war going on in our mind. The battle is between how
the devil wants us to think and what we really are in Christ.
In the Bible lands and times a horrible method of
execution was to tie a dead body to the criminal and leave him until he
died. Being tied to our past sins is like being tied to a dead
body.
In Christ we have been made free indeed. We have the
spirit of God in Christ in us. We have been delivered from the
negatives of the world and our past lives. We have been made free
from the dead body of sin and death. To walk spiritually is to
walk in light of the spirit of God in you. NOW, there is no
condemnation. We ARE free indeed.
1 Peter 2:24
Who his own self bare
our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins,
should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.
Not only did Christ free us from the sins in our mind; he
freed us from physical problems as well. By his stripes ye WERE
healed. Again, it is a past tense reality. The devil would
have you sick and diseased. But you HAVE BEEN healed physically
in Christ. In Christ we are free in every way. We are free
indeed.
Romans 8:35
Who shall separate
us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or
distress,
or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?
- tribulation = pressure, mental
pressure
- distress = being pressed against
the wall
- squeezed in
- persecution =
being pursued by someone
- famine = being without food or
the means
to purchase it
- nakedness = being without
clothing or the
means to purchase it
- peril = that which endangers
your life
- sword = a dagger - as used by an
assassin
Seven negative things that attempt to separate
us from the love of Christ are listed here. Although we face
these
things in the world the obvious answer to the rhetorical question is -
Nothing can separate us! These are the world's ways of trying;
but
nothing can because we are free indeed.
John 16:33
These things I have
spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye
shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome [conquered]
the world.
We are free
indeed through him that loved us.
Romans 8:36-37
As it is written,
For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep
for the slaughter. ???
Nay [NO
WAY!], in all these things we are more
than conquerors through him that loved us.
more than conquerors
= hupernikao - super conquerors!
In all of the world's
tribulations, pressures,
etc., we are are conquerors. And not just conquerors; we are super
conquerors. We are free indeed
through the love of God and the love of Christ who carried
out His will. Now we must get
persuaded about it.
Romans 8:38-39
For I am persuaded,
that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor
powers,
nor things present, nor things to come,
Nor height, nor
depth,
nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of
God,
which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Ten items are listed
that we are to be persuaded about. Nothing can separate us from
our freedom in Christ.
The list is all inclusive, nothing is left out.
- Nothing, in the
dimension of the
senses world, is able to separate us from the love of God in
Christ:
NOT LIFE - NOT EVEN DEATH!!!
- Nothing, in the
dimension of the
spiritual world, is able to separate us from the love of God in
Christ:
NOT ANGELS, NOT PRINCIPALITIES, NOT POWERS!!!
- Nothing, in the
dimension of time,
is able to separate us from the love of God in
Christ:
NOT THE PRESENT - NOT THE FUTURE!!!
- Nothing, in the
dimension of of
space, is able to separate us from the love of God in
Christ:
NOT HEIGHT - NOT DEPTH!!!
- Nothing, in ALL
CREATION, is able
to separate us from the love of God in Christ!!!
It is not a matter of a contest with these
things.
They do not have the ABILITY to separate us! They are NOT
ABLE to separate us.
We certainly are free indeed through
the love of God in
Christ Jesus our Lord!
