When Christ ascended he led everything that captivates man captive. He put our "cages in a cage." The text reads: "He led a multitude of captives captive. . ." When a city was conquered in Bible times everything valuable was carried away by the conqueror. Captives were taken and the valuable goods of that city were given as gifts to friends of the conqueror. Jesus Christ took captive everything that captivates man. As God's "right hand" man, on the day of Pentecost he gave the gift of holy spirit to all who wanted to receive. He also gave gifts to the church: apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors, and teachers to perfect the believers in their walk so that we also may be more than conquerors in life.
