II Peter 1:5-8
And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith [believing] virtue; and to virtue knowledge; And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness; And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity. For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. |
In mixing the ingredients of an abundant life we start by believing that Jesus Christ is Lord and that God raised him from the dead. To our believing we add virtue which is excellence. We do not settle for "bare bones" believing. To excellence we add a knowledge of God's Word. To knowledge we add temperance which is self-control. To self-control we add patience which is continuing faithful in our walk day by day. To patience we add godliness which is a spiritual relationship with God. To a spiritual relationship with God we add love for our brothers and sisters in Christ. To brotherly love we add charity which is the Love of God in action in our lives. As these things abound in the mix of our life we have the abundance promised in God's Word.
