Try My Reins

Psalm 26:2
Examine me, O LORD, and prove me; try my reins and my heart.

Psalm 139:13
For thou hast possessed [set up] my reins: thou hast covered me in my mother's womb.

Psalm 16:7
I will bless the LORD, who hath given me counsel: my reins also instruct me in the night seasons.

The word "reins" is used in the King James Version as a figure of speech meaning "the mind." Just as the reins on a bridle are used to guide a horse, our mind is the organ of thought that guides us.

The word "possessed" means "to set up." God's Word declares that God setup the system. He designed the mind of man. He put the reins and the bridle on the horse. He knows our thoughts. He knows how the mind works because He designed it.

To "try the reins" is to prove them. God is continually examining the mind and the heart of man to see if man is looking to Him. God's test is not to find fault or to blame. God is able to provide guidance down the path and strength to help in time of need for those who's minds and hearts trust in Him.
