Powerful Words

DUNAMIS
Potential Power - Like dynamite that has not been lit. The power is there waiting to be released.

DUNATEO
Possible - A form of the word dunamis - it means to be able, capable or possible because of the potential power residing within.

ENERGES
ENERGEO
Energy - Working power.  Dunamis in action.

EXOUSIA
Authority - Exercised power - the right to use the power of God.

 KRATOS
Impact - exerted power - force.   Kratos is the blow struck.  It is like the wrecking ball as it hits the building.

ISCHUO
Ability - "can do" - to have force.

dunamis
Luke 1:37 For with God nothing shall be impossible.
  • ouk=not
  • pan rhema=anything spoken
  • adunatesei=impossible - without strength or void of power.  The opposite of having dunamis potential power.
No word spoken by God is without inherent power.  The word of God is powerful and contains within it tremendous possibilities when we believe it.

Matthew 19:26 But Jesus beheld them, and said unto them, With men this is impossible (adunatos); but with God all things are possible (dunatos).

God's word is not like man's word.  Men's words are tenuous and full of impossibilities.  God's words are powerful and full of the possibilities of God.

Isaiah 55:8-11 For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the Lord.  For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.  For as the rain cometh down, and the snow from heaven, and returneth not thither, but watereth the earth, and maketh it bring forth and bud, that it may give seed to the sower, and bread to the eater: So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.

energeo
Hebrews 4:12 For the word of God is quick (alive)  and powerful (energes) , and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

God's word is alive and  powerful.  God's power, inherent in His word, is energized when we believe His word.

I Thessalonians 2:13 For this cause also thank we God without ceasing, because, when ye received the word of God which ye heard of us, ye received it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which effectually worketh (energeo - is energized) also in you that believe.

exousia
Luke 4:32,36 And they were astonished at his doctrine: for his word was with power (exousia - authority). . . And they were all amazed, and spake among themselves, saying, What a word is this!  for with authority (exousia) and power (dunamis) he commandeth the unclean spirits, and they come out.

God backs His word.  When God's word is spoken by a believer it carries the authority and power of God.

Matthew 8:5-9 And when Jesus was entered into Capernaum, there came unto him a centurion, beseeching him, And saying, Lord, my servant lieth at home sick of the palsy, grievously tormented.  And Jesus saith unto him, I will come and heal him.  The centurion answered and said, Lord, I am not worthy that thou shouldest come under my roof:  but speak the word only, and my servant shall be healed.  For I am a man under authority (exousia) having soldiers under me: and I say to this man, Go, and he goeth; and to another, Come, and he cometh; and to my servant, Do this, and he doeth it.

God's word is powerful.  It has authority.  Just as the centurion could give a command and it would be immediately carried out, God's word produces immediate results because it carries the authority of God.

Remember Genesis? "God said, let there be light: and there was light."

kratos/ischuo
Acts 19:20 So mightily (kratos) grew the word of God and prevailed (ischuo).

The word of God has impact!  When the believers in Acts 19 received the word they got rid of the junk in their lives and turned to God.  God's powerful word prevailed in their lives.

Ephesians 1:19-20 And what is the exceeding greatness of his power (dunamis) to usward who believe, according to the working (energeo) of his mighty power (kratos), Which he wrought (energeo) in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places, . . .

What a powerful word!  God energized the potential power in His word with great impact when He raised the Lord Jesus Christ from the dead and set him at His own right hand.  God's word truely is a powerful word.
