Proverbs 18:10
The name of the LORD is
a strong tower:
the righteous runneth into it, and is safe.
The name(s) of the Lord describe God's relationship to His people. God is not limited by the characteristic of His name. He is all things needed to all people. But, God defines His relationship in terms of specific characteristics that address the needs of man. One of the characteristics that describes God's relationship to His people is "Strength."
1 Samuel 15:29
And also the
Strength of Israel will not lie nor repent:
for he is not a man, that he should repent.
In the context of 1 Samuel 15:29 Saul had trusted in his own strength and judgment in a situation where the Word of God was clear. God had given Saul a job to do and he chose to do contrary to the instructions given by God. Samuel reminded him that God is the Strength of Israel, not king Saul.
Numbers 23:22
God brought them
out of Egypt; he hath as it were the strength
of an unicorn.
Numbers 24:8
God brought
him forth out of Egypt; he hath as it were the
strength of an unicorn: he shall eat up the
nations his enemies, and shall break their bones, and pierce them through
with his arrows.
Some Bible scholars believe that the unicorn is a wild bull or ox. God's strength is likened to the strength of a wild bull.
Psalm 93:1
The LORD reigneth, he is clothed
with majesty; the LORD is clothed with strength,
wherewith he hath girded himself: the world also is stablished,
that it cannot be moved.
God is clothed with strength. What a beautiful figure of speech!
Isaiah 26:3-4
Thou wilt keep him
in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because
he trusteth in thee.
Trust ye in the LORD
for ever: for in the LORD JEHOVAH is everlasting
strength:
"Everlasting strength" is "the rock of ages." God is an unmovable rock that stands for ever. That is why we can put our trust in His strength.
God IS my strength:

The
LORD is my strength and song, . . .
The song of Moses following the destruction of the army of Egypt in the red sea.
2 Samuel 22:32-34
For who is
God, save the LORD? and who is a rock, save our God?
God
is my strength and power: and
he maketh my way perfect.
He maketh my feet
like hinds feet: and setteth me upon my high places.
The song of David in the day that the Lord delivered him from Saul and his enemies. A hind is a mother deer that lives in the mountains of the Bible lands. The hind is one of the most sure footed animals in the world. When she goes up the side of the mountain she uses her front feet to test for loose stones on the slope. When she finds firm ground she then places her back feet in the exact spot that her front feet were placed. If she did not test the rocky incline with her front feet, the loose stones would cause her to slip and fall down the mountain. The young deer follow their mother step by step placing their feet exactly where the mother hind had placed her feet. This exact tracking means life to both the hind and her young. God is our strength. When we allow God to lead the way and follow the path set forth in His word, we climb to high places just like the young deer.
Psalm 18:1-2
I will love thee,
O LORD, my strength.
The LORD is
my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my
strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler,
and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower.
God is strong for us. These are all terms of strength used in war. We love God by relying upon Him in our times of need. He is our strength.
Psalm 27:1
The LORD is my
light and my salvation: whom shall I fear? the
LORD is the strength of my life; of
whom shall I be afraid?
Psalm 28:7
The
LORD is my strength and my shield;
my heart trusted in him, and I am helped: therefore my heart greatly rejoiceth;
and with my song will I praise him.
Psalm 46:1-2
God
is our refuge and strength, a very
present help in trouble.
Therefore will not we fear,
though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the
midst of the sea;
No matter what the trouble that surrounds you, God is present. He is there as a place of safety and strength. Therefore we will NOT fear. What comfort to know God as your strength!
Isaiah 40:28-31
Hast thou not known?
hast thou not heard, that the everlasting God, the LORD, the Creator
of the ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither is weary? there
is no searching of his understanding.
He giveth power to
the faint; and to them that have no might he
increaseth strength.
Even the youths shall
faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall:
But they that wait
upon the LORD shall renew their strength;
they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary;
and they shall walk and not faint.
In the Bible lands when the eagle's feathers become frail and weak (after about five years) they abandon their feathers to become youthful. The eagle will drop itself down from the top of a high tree into the water beak first. The force of the water removes the old feathers and leaves the eagle helpless in the water. The eagle cannot fly or swim and it struggles to get to shore. It takes six to eight weeks for new feathers to grow out. During this time the eagle must simply "wait on God" to renew its strength. The people in the Bible lands will many times care for the eagles and feed them as they grow new feathers. Just as the eagles are strengthened and their youth renewed as they wait on God, we too can shed our old self-sufficiency and wait on God to strengthen us.
Ephesians 3:20
Now unto him that
is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think according
to the power that worketh in us,
When we believed Romans 10:9-10, God placed holy spirit in us. The strength of God available for us in this day and time, as God's children, is even greater than that which Moses, David, and Isaiah claimed in the Old Testament. We have the power of God living within. To an even greater degree, we need to learn to look to God for strength.
Ephesians 6:10
Finally, my brethren,
be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.
