God's Workmanship

Romans 1:20
   For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made [poiema], even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse;

Ephesians 2:10
For we are his workmanship [poiema], created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.

The Greek word for "workmanship" and "things that are made" in these verses is the word "poiema."  It comes from the root word "poieo" which means "to make or to do" and it refers to the product made.  These two verses are the only places in the Bible that "poiema" is used.  It is used in the Bible of God's creative work.  The first use refers to God's original creation.  The second use refers to God's creation of holy spirit in the man or woman who believes Romans 10:9-10.  "Poiema," in its greater sense, means God's artistry or God's masterpiece.  Lets look at just a few of God's works:

Acts 4:24
And when they heard that, they lifted up their voice to God with one accord, and said, Lord, thou art God, which hast made [poieo] heaven, and earth, and the sea, and all that in them is:

God made the heaven (everything above the earth), the earth, the sea, and all the things that are in the heavens, on the earth, and in the sea.  Just look at the greatness and perfection in the created things you see around you.  All these things were made by God.

Mark 10:6
But from the beginning of the creation God made [poieo] them male and female.

God designed mankind to be male and female.  Just look at the perfection in God's design.  He did not design a man to be with a man.  He designed man for woman and woman for man.  Men and women are different for a reason.  Each perfect in design - each made to complement the other.

Luke 1:49
For he that is mighty hath done [poieo] to me great things; and holy is his name.

God created life in Mary's womb.  Jesus Christ was God's only begotten son.  That was quite a creation!

Acts 2:22
Ye men of Israel, hear these words; Jesus of Nazareth, a man approved of God among you by miracles and wonders and signs, which God did [poieo] by him in the midst of you, as ye yourselves also know:

God worked within the Lord Jesus Christ as he acted upon that which God told him to do. (John 5:19-20) All of the miracles, wonders, and signs of the Gospels God did as Jesus Christ walked according to His Will.

Acts 2:36
Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly, that God hath made [poieo] that same Jesus, whom ye have crucified, both Lord and Christ.

Because Jesus Christ carried out God's Will even unto death, God raised him from the dead and made him Lord and Christ.

Ephesians 3:11
According to the eternal purpose which he purposed [poieo] in Christ Jesus our Lord:

God's purpose for the ages was to have sons and daughters with holy spirit.  This purpose, God did for us in Christ Jesus.  When we believed Romans 10:9-10, God created a masterpiece in us.  This was His eternal purpose and the reason for Jesus Christ.

1 Thessalonians 5:23-24
And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit, and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Faithful is he that calleth you, who also will do [poieo] it.

Jesus Christ is coming back!  God is going to send him to gather us together.  God is faithful and God will DO it!  This promise is just as true and sure as the creation of the heavens and earth, the life of Jesus Christ, and God's creation of holy spirit within us.

Ephesians 3:20
Now unto him that is able to do [poieo] exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think according to the power that worketh in us,

We are God's workmanship.  We are God's artistry.  We are God's masterpieces.  Now we can do because God is at work in us as He was in Christ.
