Young People Should Walk God's Word

God wants young people to walk His Word and to be an example to others. Timothy was a young believer who was also a leader of God's people. The Apostle Paul wrote God's Word to him about how he should walk the Word.

I Timothy 4:12
Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity.

I Timothy 4:12 begins, "Let no man [no one] despise [think badly of] thy youth." The rest of the verse tells young people how they can be examples of God's Word.

" . . . But be [become] thou an example of the believers . . . " An example is a sample. Did you ever demonstrate how to do something for someone - like shoot a basket or jump rope? Did you ever do a sample problem on a test? These are examples of the correct way to do something. God wants you to be an example of how to be a believer. Then your friends can see how to walk God's Word.

I Timothy 4:12 lists five ways that young people can become an example of walking God's Word. They are (1) in word, (2) in conversation, (3) in charity, (4) in faith, and (5) in purity. (The words "in spirit" should not be in this verse because they were incorrectly added by the men who translated the Bible into English.)

In Word
First of all, young people are to become examples because of their knowledge of God's Word. The Word of God has everything that everyone needs to live a long and happy life. God's Word gives you knowledge about every part of your life. When the Word of God is first in your life you are an example of a believer.

In Behavior
The word "conversation" means "behavior". Once you know God's Word you can be an example of how to behave. When you behave according to God's Word you are an example of a believer.

In Love
The word "charity" means "the Love of God". A believer has the Love of God inside. God's love is all giving. God's love does not wait for others to be worthy of being loved. God's love even loves the unlovable. When you love God and other people with the Love of God you are an example of a believer.

In Believing
The word "faith" means "believing". Believing is trusting God's Word to be true and acting on what it says. When you believe what God says and act on it you will receive what God promises. When you act on God's Word and receive what God promises you are an example of a believer.

In Purity
The world is an evil place because the Devil is the god of the world. But you belong to the true God: the father of Jesus Christ. You do not have to get mixed up with the evil of the world. When you keep yourself pure from the world because you belong to your heavenly Father, the one true God, you are an example of a believer.

When you believed God's Word that He gave you in Romans 10:9 and 10 you became a child of God. Now you must learn to walk each day on God's Word. Just like Timothy, you can be an example of a believer. You can show others how to live God's Word. Whatever you decide to be you can be your best for God.
