The Word of Life

1 John 1:1-2
   That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, of the Word of life;
   (For the life was manifested, and we have seen it, and bear witness, and shew unto you that eternal life, which was with the Father, and was manifested unto us;)

    Life comes from God.  Life starts with the Living God and is made know to man by the Word of Life which God has revealed.

Jeremiah 10:10a
   But the LORD is the true God, he is the living God, and an everlasting king: . . .

Psalm 84:2
   My soul longeth, yea, even fainteth for the courts of the LORD: my heart and my flesh crieth out for the living God.

   The LORD is "the Living God."  Man is basically God hungry.  The heart of man longs for and cries out for a knowledge of the Living God and the eternal life that is available through a knowledge of His Word.

Matthew 4:4
   But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.

   The Word of God is the Will of God.  God is made known by His Word.  God's Word is vital to the life of man.  Just as physical food is necessary to sustain the body, the words that proceed from the Living God are necessary for life.

Hebrews 4:12
   For the word of God is quick [alive!], and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

   God is the Living God and His Word is alive and powerful.  The life of God is available through the Word of Life.

John 6:63
   It is the spirit that quickeneth [makes alive]; the flesh profiteth nothing:  the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.

John 12:49-50
   For I [Jesus Christ] have not spoken of myself; but the Father which sent me, he gave me a commandment, what I should say and what I should speak.
   And I know that his commandment is life everlasting: whatsoever I speak therefore, even as the Father said unto me, so I speak.

   Jesus Christ always spoke God's Word of Life because he knew that everlasting life comes from the Living God by way of His Word.

John 5:39
   Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me.

   Jesus Christ is the subject of the Word of Life.  Eternal life from the Living God is made available to man by the Lord Jesus Christ.  The Word of God makes known Christ and Christ is the only way to the life available from the Living God.

John 14:6
   Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

John 10:10b
   I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.

John 20:31
   But these [the words of the book of John] are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name.

   Jesus Christ came that we might have life.  He was crucified and died for our sins.  God raised him from the dead.  When we believe, as the Word of Life declares, that Jesus Christ is Lord and that God raised him from the dead, we receive eternal life from the Living God. [Romans 10:9-10]

Romans 6:23
   For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life though Jesus Christ our Lord.

   As children of the Living God, with God's gift of eternal life dwelling within us, we shine as lights in this world as we hold forth that same Word of Life.

Philippians 2:15-16a
   That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world;
   Holding forth the word of life; . . .
