Psalm 138:2b . . . for thou hast magnified thy word above all thy name.

God puts a tremendous value on His Word.  He has magnified it above all of His name.  He signed His Word just as you would sign a check.  A check is only as good as the assets the signer has in the bank.  God's Word is as good as God for He has put His name on it.  The assets of God include all the heavens and the earth and everything contained therein as He created it all.  God owns it all and He backs His word with all of His assets and all of His attributes.

Not only is God's Word backed by all the fullness of God and all of His assets, He has magnified His Word above all that He has and all that He is.  Obviously, God puts a tremendous value on His Word.

Psalm 12:6
The words of the Lord are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times.

Psalm 119:72
The law of thy mouth is better unto me than thousands of gold and silver.

God's Word is much more valuable than silver or gold.  God's words are pure words.  God's words are not like the words of men.  A man may tell you that he is going to meet you at a certain place and time and then not show up.  You cannot always trust the words of men for they are not pure.  But God's words are pure; and not only pure but purer, than purer, than purer, than purer, than purer, than purer, than pure - seven times purified.  If you had a boxcar filled with silver and it contained just a few grains of sand you would say that it was pretty pure.  In fact, if it only had a few grains of imperfection you would say that it was much purer than that which we would usually call pure silver.  Yet God's Word is seven times purer than anything man calls pure.  How valuable is God's Word?

Matthew 4:4 But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.

The Word of God is that necessary food which the mind and soul of man needs to live a healthy abundant life.  Just as the physical body needs physical food, the mind of man needs the pure food of God's Word.  The words and knowledge of men are not pure and you can never know (if you are living on the words of men) if you are not living on food that is toxic to your mind and life.  Only the pure Words of God are proper food for a healthy heart and mind.  And only by eating a steady diet of God's Word can you live as God intended.  If you neglect God's Word you will mentally starve, just as your physical body would suffer if you do not eat physical food.  If you live on "Word of God" that has been diluted and contaminated with the ideas of man you will also suffer from an improper or toxic diet.  Only by living on the pure Word of God can you be assured of a healthy soul life.  How valuable is the Word of God?  It is a valuable as your daily bread.

Jeremiah 15:16 Thy words were found, and I did eat them; and thy word was unto me the joy and rejoicing of mine heart: for I am called by thy name, O Lord God of hosts.

The prophet Jeremiah found God's Word and he lived on it.  He fed on the pure words of God.  Not just a one time meal, but daily food.  He had joy and "re- joiced"  which means he had joy when he ate God's Word; then he ate some more and had joy again.  The Word of God is a continual source of nourishment to our soul that causes us great joy again and again as we live daily on that Word.  How valuable is the Word of God?

II Peter 1:3 According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue.

How valuable is the knowledge of God?  It contains ALL things that pertain unto life!  That means that nothing is missing.  Everything you need to know about how to live a happy, healthy, abundant life can be found in the words and knowledge of God.  And ALL things that pertain to godliness (which is a spiritual relationship with God) can be found in the knowledge of His Word.  How valuable is God's Word?

God's knowledge when applied to life is called wisdom.  One is wise when one applies the knowledge of God.  It was God's wisdom that created the heavens and the earth as a habitation for man.  It was God's wisdom that placed man in this beautiful environment to worship Him.  The wisdom of God's Word is beyond price.

Job 28:12-13a, 15-18
But where shall wisdom be found? and where is the place of understanding?
[It is found in God's Word!]
Man knoweth not the price thereof; . . .
It cannot be gotten for gold, neither shall silver be weighted for the price thereof.
It cannot be valued with the gold of Ophir, with the precious onyx, or the sapphire.
The gold and the crystal cannot equal it: and the exchange of it shall not be for jewels of fine gold.
No mention shall be made of coral, or of pearls: for the price of wisdom is above rubies.
The topaz of Ethiopia shall not equal it, neither shall it be valued with pure gold.

How valuable is the wisdom of God!

Proverbs 3:13-20
Happy is the man that findeth wisdom, and the man that getteth understanding.
[Want to be happy?  How valuable is happiness.  It comes from applying God's Word!]
For the merchandise of it is better than the merchandise of silver, and the gain thereof than fine gold.
She [wisdom & knowledge of God's Word] is more precious than rubies: and all the things thou canst desire are not to be compared unto her.
[How valuable is God's Word!  What do you desire most?  What is the best thing you can think of?  ALL things thou canst desire do not compare with the tremendous value of God's Word]
Length of days is in her right hand; and in her left hand riches and honour.
[How valuable is a long healthy life?  How valuable is being rich?  How about having honour?  All these things are yours when you apply God's Word!]
Her ways are ways of pleasantness, and all her paths are peace.
[Many that prosper in the world are in misery and full of stress.  Yet God's Word promises a long healthy life with riches, honor, pleasantness, and peace.  How valuable is God's Word!]
She [wisdom & knowledge of God's Word] is a tree of life to them that lay hold upon her: and happy is every one that retaineth her.
The Lord by wisdom hath founded the earth; by understanding hath he established the heavens.
By his knowledge the depths are broken up, and the clouds drop down the dew.

Proverbs 16:16
How much better is it to get wisdom than gold! and to get understanding rather to be chosen than silver!

How valuable is God's Word?  It is the most valuable thing.  Everything in life is dependent upon God's Word  - no wonder He magnified it above all His name.
