In God's Word, Abraham is called the father of all that believe. First and foremost, he acknowledged God as the MOST HIGH GOD. "Lift up mine hand" is an eastern expression that means to surrender all to God's care. Abram recognized that it is God who "owns it all." God is the possessor of heaven and earth and God is the one who is the MOST HIGH GOD. God is over all!
Job 22:12
Is
not God in the height of heaven? and
behold
the height of the stars, how high they are!
The star nearest to our solar
system is the triple star Proxima Centauri, which is about 40 trillion
km from earth. In terms of the speed of light, the common
standard
used by astronomers for expressing distance, this triple-star system is
about 4.29 light-years distant; light traveling at about
186,000 miles per second takes more than four
years and three months to travel from this star to earth. The
height
of God is compared to the
height of the stars! God is BIG.
He is the MOST HIGH GOD.
Psalm 113:4-5
The
LORD is high above all nations, and
his glory above the heavens.
Who is like unto the
LORD
our God, who dwelleth on high,
God is the MOST HIGH God. He dwells on high. But the height of God is also related to His position in regard to all other powers and authorities. The LORD is high above all nations.
Psalm 97:9
For
thou, LORD, art high above all the
earth: thou art exalted far above all gods.
There are many other powers in heaven and on earth that are worshiped as gods. But the one true God is exalted far above all of them. He is the MOST HIGH GOD.
Psalm 92:7-8
When the wicked spring as the grass, and when all the
workers of iniquity do flourish; it is that they shall be
destroyed
for ever:
But
thou, LORD, art most high for evermore.
There are times when those who are wicked seem to be powerful and in control. They spring up and flourish momentarily. But the MOST HIGH GOD is high for evermore. His power and authority will never be diminished. God is MOST HIGH for evermore!
Isaiah 57:15
For thus saith the
high and lofty One that inhabiteth
eternity,
whose name is Holy; I dwell in the high and holy place,
with
him also that is of a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the
spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite ones.
Although God is high and lofty, His favour and His heart is toward the man or woman who is humble. Abraham acknowledged that the MOST HIGH GOD was his provider. When we put God in His proper place and look to Him as the supplier of all we need, the Word of God says we dwell with Him in the high and holy place. When you exalt yourself and try to "do it all on your own" without God, you will never succeed. God, who is MOST HIGH, must be the one who lifts and exalts men. Only then can man truly "ride high!"
Exodus 19:4
Ye have seen what I did unto
the Egyptians, and how I bare you
on
eagles' wings, and brought you unto myself.
The MOST HIGH GOD brought the Children of Israel out of Egypt with a high hand. He "bare them on eagles' wings" from the bondage of Egypt to His presence at Mount Sinai. They were "riding high" as they witnessed the great power of God's deliverance. God always lifts up those who seek Him for help.
Isaiah 58:13-14
If thou turn away thy foot from
the sabbath, from doing thy pleasure on my holy day; and call
the
sabbath a delight, the holy of the LORD, honourable; and shalt honour
him,
not doing thine own ways, nor finding thine own pleasure, nor speaking
thine own words;
Then shalt thou delight thyself
in the LORD; and I will cause thee to
ride
upon the high places of the earth, . . .
Mans ways of worship are for man and not God. It was not to do man's pleasure or speak man's words that God made a sabbath. It was to be a day to honor God and seek the MOST HIGH. When God is the focus of our thoughts and actions, HE causes us to ride on high. We will never get up there trying to do it ourselves.
Isaiah 55:8-9
For my thoughts are not
your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD,
For
as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher
than your ways, and my thoughts than your
thoughts.
God's
ways are higher than our ways. God is the MOST HIGH and He knows
"the high way!" That is why it must be God that lifts man and not
man himself.
1 John 3:19-21
And hereby we know
that we are of the truth, and shall assure our hearts before him.
For if our heart
condemn us, God is greater than
our heart, and knoweth all things.
Beloved, if our heart
condemn us not, then have we confidence toward God.
Our heart may condemn us, but God is greater
than our heart. God is the Most High God. It is never a
problem with God's ability or willingness to help us. We must
assure our hearts in the truth of His Word and allow God (who is
greater than our heart) to set us on our high places.
Psalm 18:32-33
It is God that girdeth
me with strength, and maketh my way perfect.
He
maketh my feet like hinds' feet, and setteth me up on my high
places.
A hind is a mother deer that
lives
in the mountains of the Bible lands. The hind is one of the most sure
footed
animals in the world. When she goes up the side of the mountain she
uses
her front feet to test for loose stones on the slope. When she finds
firm
ground she then places her back feet in the exact spot that her front
feet
were placed. If she did not test the rocky incline with her front feet,
the loose stones would cause her to slip and fall
down the mountain. The young deer follow their
mother step by step placing their feet exactly where the mother hind
had
placed her feet. This exact
tracking means life to both the hind and her
young.
The MOST HIGH GOD and His Word
are like the mother hind to us. The Word is sure, tried and
tested.
When we allow God to be the one to lead us up the mountain, when we
stand
on the solid ground tested by God's Word and place our feet on the
ground
God has tested for us, we too will be set upon our high places and
never
fall.
Luke 1:32
He [Jesus
Christ] shall be great, and shall be
called
the Son of the Highest;
and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David:
Luke 1:35
And the angel answered and said
unto her [Mary],
The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the
Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore
also
that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of
God.
Jesus Christ is God's son. The son of THE HIGHEST. He was exalted because he always did God's will. He did not seek his own pleasure. He is our savior and example. He obeyed God even unto death and God exalted him.
Philippians 2:8-11
And being found in fashion as
a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the
death
of the cross.
Wherefore
God also hath highly exalted him, and
given
him a name which is above every name:
That at the name of Jesus
every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in
earth,
and things under the earth;
And that every tongue
should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God
the
Father.
Jesus Christ was highly exalted by God because he was humble and obeyed. He always acknowledged God as the MOST HIGH and did that which God wanted him to do. God wants us to see the greatness of His power which He worked when He raised Jesus Christ from the dead.
Ephesians 1:20-23
Which he wrought in Christ, when
he raised him from the dead, and set him
at his own right hand in the heavenly places,
Far
above all principality, and power, and
might,
and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but
also in that which is to come:
And hath put all things
under his feet, and gave him to be the head over all things
to the church,
Which is his body, the fulness
of him that filleth all in all.
God set Jesus Christ in the highest of places at His own right hand. When we believe that Jesus Christ is Lord and that God raised him from the dead, God exalts us as well. This is God's way of salvation. Many men have given their own ideas about salvation and what they think will raise men up. But only the exaltation of the MOST HIGH GOD can lift a man or woman to the high position of God's child seated at His right hand.
Ephesians 2:4-6
But God, who is rich in mercy,
for his great love wherewith he loved us,
Even when we were dead in sins,
hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;)
And hath
raised us up together, and made us sit together in
heavenly
places in Christ Jesus:
God has exalted those who in humility have accepted His work in Christ in place of their own works. It is by grace - an unmerited gift - that we also are seated at the right hand of the MOST HIGH GOD. We have been made His sons and daughters, and as such we call the Most High God Our Father!
