Sometimes as we continue to walk faithful to God's Word day after day after day we get weary in our minds and begin to think that we are alone in our commitment and that we are not getting any results. God reminds us in His wonderful Word that He is our strength. He is always with us. He never leaves us nor forsakes us and He will reward us for continuing faithful to His Word.

 Galatians 6:9 And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.

 If we trust in our own strength and ability to continue "well doing" we shall surely faint. By looking to God, who is our strength, we will not only find the might to continue but we will soar like the eagles.

 Isaiah 40:28-31 Hast thou not known? hast thou not heard, that the everlasting God, the Lord, the Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither is weary? there is no searching of his understanding.
He giveth power to the faint and to them that have no might he increaseth strength.
Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall:
But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.

 Sometimes we grow impatient to see the deliverance of God in our lives and try to accomplish God's Word without God. That will never work. Remember Abraham? He tried to "do it on his own" with Hagar rather than waiting and relying upon God and His time table. God reminded him of His promise and Abraham believed God. We must also wait upon God and rely upon Him for our strength and deliverance. It is God's Word - and it can only be accomplished with God's help.

 Psalm 27:13-14 I had fainted, unless I had believed to see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living.
Wait on the Lord: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the Lord.

 There is a very interesting record in I Kings 19 of the prophet Elijah and how God worked with him when he was weary and faint in his mind. Elijah had believed God and challenged the prophets of Baal and the ungodly rule of Ahab and Jezebel. The result of his stand was that these rulers were looking for him to kill him once again. Elijah felt like he was the only person standing for God and decided he had had enough and was ready to just lie down and quit.

 I Kings 19:4 But he himself went a day's journey into the wilderness, and came and sat down under a juniper tree: and he requested for himself that he might die; and said, It is enough: now O Lord take away my life; for I am not better than my fathers.

 God did not respond to Elijah's weariness with sympathy for his feelings of inadequacy. Rather, God blessed him and began to give him things to do. Small steps at first. And then, as Elijah's confidence and strength were increased, so were the tasks.

 I Kings 19:5-6 And as he lay and slept under a juniper tree, behold, then an angel touched him, and said unto him, Arise and eat. And he looked, and, behold, there was a cake baken on the coals, and a cruse of water at his head. And he did eat and drink, and laid him down again.

 God simply showed His love for Elijah and tried to get him moving again. Elijah was trying to "sleep to death." He was waiting to die rather than waiting on God. God sent an angel, fed him, as gave one simple task - "get up!" And Elijah did get up. But as soon as he had eaten he laid back down. So God gave him a little bit more to do . . .

 I Kings 19:7-8 And the angel of the Lord came again the second time, and touched him, and said, Arise and eat; because the journey is too great for thee. And he arose, and did eat and drink and went in the strength of that meat forty days and forty nights unto Horeb the mount of God.

 God got Elijah up and moving again. But when Elijah got to Horeb he went into a cave and waited - not on God but once again waited to die. This time God spoke with Elijah and Elijah told God how he felt:

 I Kings 19:9-10 And he came thither unto a cave, and lodged there: and the word of the Lord came to him, and he said unto him, What doest thou here, Elijah?
And he said, I have been very jealous for the Lord God of hosts: for the children of Israel have forsaken thy covenant, thrown down thine altars, and slain thy prophets with the sword; and I, even I only, am left; and they seek my life, to take it away.

 Elijah was weary and faint in his mind. He believed he was alone in standing for God. Once again, God did not show sympathy for Elijah's feelings of inadequacy. He simply showed His love for Elijah and let him know that He was there for him - standing with him.

 I Kings 19:11-12 And he [God] said, Go forth, and stand upon the mount before the Lord, and behold, the Lord passed by, and a great and strong wind rent the mountains and brake in pieces the rocks before the Lord; but the Lord was not in the wind: and after the wind an earthquake; but the Lord was not in the earthquake:
And after the earthquake a fire; but the Lord was not in the fire: and after the fire a still small voice.

 It does not matter what kind of turbulence, wind, earthquake, or fire is disturbing the world around us, God is always there for us as a still small voice encouraging and guiding us to do His Word.

 Elijah still did not move forward but at least he was listening. Once again God asked him what he was doing there and once again Elijah told God that he was the only one standing on God's Word.

 Finally, Elijah was ready to move ahead again and God began to give him a variety of major tasks to do including an apprentice to teach: Elisha - I guess there must have been at least one other person willing to stand for God. In fact, as God reminded him, there were quite a few . . .

 I Kings 19:18 Yet I have left me seven thousand in Israel, all the knees which have not bowed unto Baal, and every mouth which hath not kissed him.

 When we get weary and, like Elijah, feel like we are the only ones standing for God, we need to look to God and listen to that still small voice for He is our strength and our sufficiency in every situation.
