A few days ago as I was driving in my car, I saw a church billboard which blessed me very much that read "New millennium - same God." Times change. People change. But God remains the same. The word "everlasting" in Psalm 90 is the Hebrew word 'owlam which indicates "the vanishing point." As you look back in time to the vanishing point or forward in time to the vanishing point God is there - the same from everlasting to everlasting.
Genesis 21:33
And Abraham planted a
grove in Beersheba, and called there on the name of the Lord, the
everlasting God.
God's name tells us about who God is. He is "The Everlasting God." He is eternal. He is faithful. He is the same.
Psalm 100:5
For the Lord is good;
his
mercy is everlasting; and his
truth endureth to all generations.
God is good - ALWAYS. God's lovingkindness is constant - His mercy is, as He is, everlasting. The truth of God's Word endures to all generations. We can trust God's Word and rely on His lovingkindness because God does not change. (Malachi 3:6a For I am the Lord, I change not;) He is the same God today as He was when His Word was given and He will be the same God tomorrow, and the next day, and the next. We can trust His Word because it is the everlasting God who is there backing it.
Isaiah 40:28
Hast thou not known? hast thou
not heard, that the everlasting God,
the Lord, the Creator of the ends of the earth , fainteth
not, neither is weary? there is
no searching of his understanding.
We may get tired or faint in our minds but our God, the everlasting God, is our strength and He does not get weary or faint. His strength is everlasting and He is always there for us to lean upon and rely upon when we lack strength in our lives.
Deuteronomy 33:27a
The
eternal God is thy refuge, and underneath
are
the everlasting arms:
God is always there for us. He is eternal and He keeps us in the refuge of His everlasting arms. No matter who the enemy is in our lives, God is there for us supporting and protecting. What a wonderful loving God we have to rely upon.
Psalm 103:17
But the
mercy of the Lord is from everlasting to everlasting
upon them that fear him, and his righteousness unto children's children;
Mercy is the desire to relieve misery. Mercy is lovingkindness in action. Lovingkindness is the nature of God. From everlasting to everlasting, from the beginning of time to time eternal, God shows forth His lovingkindness toward those who reverence Him.
Lamentations 3:22-23
It is of the Lord's mercies
that we are not consumed, because his compassions
fail not.
They are new every morning:
great
is thy faithfulness.
God is compassionate ALWAYS. His love toward us is "new every morning." He is faithful to His Word because he is the same God today, tomorrow, and forever.
Jeremiah 31:3
The Lord hath appeared of old
unto me, saying, Yea, I have loved
thee with an everlasting love: therefore with
lovingkindness have I drawn thee.
God has loved us with an everlasting love and with His lovingkindness He draws us to Himself. He is always there for us to protect us, strengthen us, and guide us with the truth of His unchanging Word. God is the same. He does not change. In the year 2000 and beyond let us say with the psalmist:
Psalm 41:13
Blessed be the Lord God
of Israel
from everlasting, and to everlasting.
Amen and Amen.
