Psa 52:8-9
But I am like a green olive tree in the house of God: I trust in the mercy of God for ever and ever. I will praise thee for ever, because thou hast done it: and I will wait on thy name; for it is good before thy saints.

The house represents the presence of God. The green olive a picture of prosperity and fruitfulness: the tree in which abides that (oil) which signifies the Spirit of God, green in its freshness of life eternal.

Psa 123:2
Behold, as the eyes of servants look unto the hand of their masters, and as the eyes of a maiden unto the hand of her mistress; so our eyes wait upon the LORD our God, until that he have mercy upon us.

In the Bible lands a servant would stand in the background and watch for his master to signal him with his hands. The signal would be subtle and not obvious to the guests of the master. The servant would intently watch the hands of the master and wait for him to signal him. We are to keep our eyes on God and wait upon Him. We watch and wait intently - continuously focused on God just as the servant looks to the hands of the master.

Psa 130:5-6
I wait for the LORD, my soul doth wait, and in his word do I hope. My soul waiteth for the Lord more than they that watch for the morning: I say, more than they that watch for the morning.

In the Bible times the day was split into hours of prayer and hours where watchmen would be posted to guard the cities. The early morning watchmen ended their watch with the rising of the sun. They would with great expectation "Watch for the morning."

Isa 40:30-31
Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall: But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.

In the Bible lands when the eagle's feathers become frail and weak (after about five years) they abandon their feathers to become youthful. The eagle will drop itself down from the top of a high tree into the water beak first. The force of the water removes the old feathers and leaves the eagle helpless in the water. The eagle cannot fly or swim and it struggles to get to shore. It takes six to eight weeks for new feathers to grow out. During this time the eagle must simply "wait on God" to renew its strength. Just as the eagles are strengthened and their youth renewed as they wait on God, we too can shed our self-sufficiency and wait on God to strengthen us.

God has promised that Jesus Christ is going to return for us from heaven and we will receive a new body like Jesus Christ's resurrected body. Today, we look to the heavens in anticipation and wait for that great day. What a day that will be!
