By the Word of God
II Timothy 316
All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, [theopneustos - Godbreathed] and is
profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction
in righteousness;
Matthew 4:4
But he answered and said, It is written, Man
shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the
mouth of God.
The testimony of
God's Word is that ALL scripture came from the mouth of God. ALL
scripture God breathed. We must get to the point that we
recognize God as the author of His Word (the Bible) and have respect
for the power and authority of God's Word.
Galatians
1:11-12
But I certify
you brethren, that the gospel which was preached of me is not after man.
For I neither received it of man, neither
was I taught it, but by revelation of Jesus Christ.
The Word of God did not come from the mind of
man. Paul said he did not receive it of man. He was not
taught it. The Word of God came to Paul by revelation.
II Peter
1:20-21
Knowing
this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private
interpretation.
For the
prophecy came [phero - brought forth] not in old time by the will of man:
but holy men of God spake as they were moved
[phero
- brought forth] by the Holy Ghost.
The Word
of God, all scripture, came to holy men of God from God. It did
not come to them by their own will or by the will of some other
man. God gave His Word. Therefore, no scripture is of one's
own interpretation. It did not come from man and man is not
responsible for its content. We endeavor to study God's Word and
rightly divide it so that we understand and believe that which God
originally gave. We recognize that it is God's Word and not our
own or some other man's. We do not let our minds run loose upon
the Word of God and give all kinds of interpretations. We simply
work to understand that which is written and believe it. God is
perfect and His words are perfect. If we wrongly divide and
interpret the Word we will not have God's Word, we will have our own
word. God's Word, rightly divided, works with the same power and
authority as when He originally gave it. If we wrongly divide the
Word of God it will not work for it will not be God's Word. Where
and when we have the true Word of God we will see the results of that
Word.
The FIRST thing we must know is that God's
Word came from God and we must not change it. The word "private" in verse 20 is the Greek
word idios which means "one's own." The FIRST thing
we must endeavor to do is to avoid our own interpretation of God's
Word. We must study with a view to understanding and setting
forth exactly what is written. We may not always get it right,
but when we do we will see the results of believing God's powerful
Word.
Romans 10:17
So then
faith, cometh by hearing, and
hearing by the word of God.
Faith, confidence, believing comes from
hearing the true Word of God. God's Word is powerful and causes
believing in those who hear it and receive it as The Word of God.
I
Thessalonians 2:13
For this
cause also thank we God without ceasing, because, when ye received the
word of God which ye heard of us, ye received it not as the word of men, but as it is
in truth the word of God, which effectually worketh also in you that
believe.
The Word of God works when you receive it as
God's Word and believe it. God's Word has the authority and power
of God in it. The more of it you hear, the more you
believe. The more you believe it the more effectually it
works.
Hebrews 11:3
By faith
we understand that the worlds
were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen
were not made of things which do appear.
II Peter 3:5
For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of
old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water.
Psalm 33:6,9
By the
word of the LORD were the heavens made; and all the host of them
by the breath of his mouth. . . .
For he spake, and it was done; he commanded, and it stood
fast.
The Word of God gives understanding and faith
or confidence in God. By believing God's Word we understand that
the heavens and the earth were fashioned by God speaking forth His
Word.
Genesis
1:3 - And God said Let there be light: and there was light.
Genesis
1:6-7 - And God said, Let there be a firmament . . . and it was
so.
Genesis
1:9 - And God said, . . . let the dry land appear: and it was
so.
Genesis
1:11 - And God said, Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb
yielding seed, and the fruit tree . . . and it was so.
Genesis
1:14-15 - And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament . .
. and it was so.
Genesis
1:20 - And God said, Let the waters bring forth abundantly the
moving creature that hath life, and fowl . . .
Genesis
1:24 - And God said, Let the earth bring forth the living
creature after his kind, cattle and creeping thing, and beast of the
earth after his kind: and it was so.
Genesis
1:26 - And God said, Let us make man in our image. . .
If God's Word spoken by God is so powerful
that it caused light, the heavens, the earth, the plants, the stars,
sea creatures, every living thing on earth, and man - it is worth our
time to study and believe it.
The God that Made the Heavens and
the Earth
Nehemiah 9:6
Thou, even thou, art LORD alone; thou hast made heaven and
the heaven of heavens, with all their host, the earth, and all things that are therein, the seas, and all that is therein, and thou perservest them
all; and the host of heaven worshippeth thee.
Jeremiah
10:10-13
But the
LORD is the true God, he is the living God, and the everlasting
king: at his wrath the earth shall tremble, and the nations shall
not be able to abide his indignation.
Thus
shall ye say unto them, the gods
that have not made the heavens and the
earth, even they shall perish from the earth, and
from under these heavens.
He hath
made the earth by his power, he hath established the world by his
wisdom, and hath stretched out the heavens by his discretion.
When he uttereth his voice there is a multitude of waters in the heavens,
and he causeth the vapours to ascend from the ends of the earth; he
maketh lightnings with rain, and bringeth forth the wind out of his
treasures.
God is the true God who made the heavens and
the earth. There are other (so called) gods who did not make the
heavens and the earth. But they are going to perish. Our
God made the heavens and the earth and He is a living God. The
power of His Word continues to cause action in the heavens and the
earth.
Jeremiah 32:17
Ah LORD
GOD! behold, thou hast made the
heaven and the earth by thy great power
and stretched out arm, and there is nothing too hard for thee:
Nothing is too hard for our God: the God that
made the heavens and the earth. It is the height of arrogance
that we should think that the troubles we face from the hand of man are
too hard for our God to handle.
Isaiah
51:12-13b
I, even I, am he that comforteth you; who art thou,
that thou shouldest be afraid of a man that shall die, and of the son
of man which shall be made as grass;
And
forgettest the LORD thy maker, that
hath stretched forth the heavens,
and laid the foundations of the earth; . . .
God is the true God. God made the
heavens and the earth. What can man do to us when this God is our
helper?
Psalm 121:2
My help cometh from the LORD, which made
heaven and earth.
Psalm 124:8
Our help is
in the name of the LORD, who made
heaven and earth.
Psalm 146:5-6
Happy is he
that hath the God of Jacob
for his help, whose hope is in
the LORD his God:
Which
made heaven, and earth, the sea, and all
that therein is: which
keepeth truth for ever:
Do you need help? The God who made the
heaven and earth by the power of His Word says in His Word that our
help comes from Him. If He has the power to speak and make all of
what we see in the heavens and earth: the stars, the seas, the plants,
the animals, man . . .; what about giving us a little help? Do
you think God might have some ability to help? I do.
Psalm 115:15
Ye are blessed of the LORD which made
heaven and earth.
Psalm 133:3
The LORD that
made heaven and earth bless thee
out of Zion.
Ephesians 1:3
Blessed be
the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with
all spiritual blessings in heavenly places
in Christ:
God made the heaven and the earth by
the power of His Word. This is then the standard of the
power of His Word by which we believe. God (who made heaven and
earth) says we are blessed. Therefore we are blessed.
Romans 10:8b-9
. . .
that is the word of faith, which we preach:
That if
thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in
thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
1 Peter 2:23
Being
born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth
and abideth for ever.
By believing the Word of God as recorded in
Romans 10:9 a man or woman receives holy spirit. That person is
born from above by the power of the Word of God which he or she
believed. This is the beginning of blessings and help: to be made
whole-- body,
soul, and spirit. Then, when we hear more and believe more of
God's powerful Word, He continues to bless and help us as our Father,
the God who
created the heavens and the earth.
